Van Echo earned his Master of Science in civil engineering, specializing in water resources engineering, from The Ohio State University. He is a registered professional engineer in Ohio.
He has been past president of the OSU Civil Engineering Alumni Association and the American Society of Civil Engineers-Central Ohio Section.
Van Echo has over 29 years of experience which includes geotechnical engineering for Dominion Homes, Inc., M/I Schottenstein Homes, Inc., various Ohio Department of Natural Resources' dam and mine reclamation projects, many Del-Co Water reservoir projects, and the Longaberger Headquarters basket building.
